Here’s how to check who’s using your TV and movie streaming services

TORONTO — Several streaming services have offered warnings to the public about sharing passwords for singular accounts, prompting questions about how to tell if someone is using yours without permission.

There are a few simple steps you can follow to check who’s on your account for streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video and how to start freeloaders.

Here’s what you need to know:

NETFLIX

To check who is using your Netflix account, start by logging in and going to the main menu screen.

From the drop-down menu options next to your profile picture at the top right of the screen, select “Account”.

Then look for the option called “Settings” and choose “Recent device streaming activity”.

A list of devices currently using your account should appear with a date and general location information. Identify the general devices and locations that apply to you and note those that do not.

In the “Manage download devices” option under “Account”, if you spot a device that you do not recognize, click on the “remove device” option.

If you don’t recognize multiple devices, you can choose the “Sign out from all devices” options under “Account”. This will essentially force close all devices using the service and prompt them for login credentials to reconnect.

If you are concerned that someone has stolen your password or other login credentials, you can change your password by selecting the “Change Password” option on the Account page. Make sure the box labeled “Require all devices to reconnect with a new password” is checked.

DISNEY +

Disney+ does not offer information about individual devices using the platform, but it is possible to sign out of all devices currently using the service.

Start by logging in and navigating to your user profile at the top right of the main menu.

Select “Account” and choose the option “Sign out from all devices”. This will require anyone attempting to use the streaming service to enter your login credentials.

If you’re worried that someone has stolen your password or other login credentials, you can change your password by selecting the pencil icon next to the password section.

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

To see who is using your Amazon Prime Video account, log in and click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen and choose “Settings”, then select the “Your Devices” option.

If you’re on mobile, choose “My Stuff”, then the gear icon, then select “Saved Devices”.

A list of devices should appear showing the Amazon services they use. If any of them are suspicious, click “Unsubscribe” to remove them from your account.

If you want to sign out of every device linked to your account, select the “Edit” button next to the “Secure your account” option. Amazon may email you to confirm the selection.

If approved, the “Secure Your Account” page will list all apps connected to your Amazon account. Select “Sign out of everything” to start all devices and applications in your account.

If you want to change your password for Amazon Prime Video, you need to change your general Amazon login credentials. It is strongly recommended that you set up two-factor authentication to keep your account and information secure.

VERY WANT TO

To check who is using your account for Crave, which also hosts content from HBO and HBO Max in Canada, log in to your account and select the “Manage Account” option from the drop-down menu attached to your profile icon .

Select “Settings” and choose the “Device Management” option – a list of devices and their last login date should appear. If you want to remove a device, just click the “Remove” button.

If you are concerned that someone has stolen your password or other login credentials, you can change your password by selecting “Account” under “Manage Account” and change your password in the section provided.
