BARKHAMSTED and TORRINGTON – A taste of Hollywood has come to the northwest corner as Netflix shoots two separate productions.
According to Mark Dixon of the State Film Division, Netflix is ​​filming “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” in Barkhamsted and “Happiness For Beginners” in Torrington.
“Our office worked with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the town of Barkhamsted to obtain permits from ‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, ”Dixon wrote in an email to The Winsted Phoenix. “We also worked with DEEP and State Parks on the shoot at Sunny Brook State Park for ‘Happiness for Beginners.’ “
According to an article published on the Town of Barkhamsted website, “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” is based on a short story by Stephen King, which was published in a short story collection called “If It Bleeds”.
“Sir. Harrigan’s Phone” is written and directed by John Lee Hancock, who also directed “The Blind Side” and “The Highwaymen”.
Filming for the film took place on Tuesday October 19 and Wednesday October 20 at West River Road.
As for “Happiness for Beginners,” according to published reports, the film is based on a novel written in 2015 by Katherine Center.
The film stars Ellie Kemper who has appeared in “The Office” and other TV shows and movies.
