New Netflix Movies and Shows (June 2022)

Chris Hemsworth, spider head

Extraction is one of Netflix’s greatest movies of all time, thanks in large part to its main stud, Chris Hemsworth. C-Hemmy Returns To Netflix Original Cinematic Space With New Film spider head, which comes out this Friday. Hemsworth isn’t playing a bone-breaking special ops beef like he used to be Extraction, but he wears glasses as a scientist who tinkers with the brain chemistry of willing prisoners in the thriller. Will it make waves like Extraction? It will be a test for Hemsworth’s home box office abilities.

Later this month, kids (and parents in need of some quiet) can look forward to Netflix’s debut on Sing 2which comes out on June 22. Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy drops on the same day to provide answers on The Sparrow Academy, which showed up at the end of Season 2. Already out this month, Adam Sandler’s surprisingly watchable basketball flick Hustlethe lesbian teen vampire drama First murderand the last season of Peaky Blinders. And of course there are the hours and hours and hours of stranger things 4in case you haven’t finished it already.

Below, we’ve rounded up our picks of what to watch on Netflix in June, along with lists of everything coming to and leaving Netflix during the month.

The Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix in June

Hustle (June 8)

In Uncut Gems, the game of basketball is basically billed second only to Adam Sandler himself. Sandler is famous for big fan of basketball in general, so it was only a matter of time before he made it into a movie. Continuing to like to remind the world that he is in fact a solid dramatic actor, Hustle is a sports drama that stars Sandler as a failed scout who makes it his mission to recruit a talented Spanish street ball player into the NBA. First murder (June 10)

The bones of Romeo and Juliet shake in their graves over this new Netflix series, which centers on two teenage girls who fall into forbidden love. Why is it prohibited? Because one of them is a vampire (who is literally called Juliet) and the other is a vampire hunter. Happy Pride! [Trailer]

Peaky Blinders (June 10)

Your favorite period crime drama is back for its sixth and final season. It takes place at the end of Prohibition, bringing Tommy (Cillian Murphy) to North America and finding him allied with his enemies. It will also be the first season without Helen McCrory, who died in 2021. [Trailer]

Nickelodeon Classic Series (June 21)

If you were a child/immature teenager/patient parent in the mid-1990s and early 2000s, you’re well-acquainted with Nickelodeon shows like All that, Zoe 101, Kenan and Keland Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. A few seasons of all four are coming to Netflix in June, and while I personally choose not to rewatch shows from my youth because I’d rather keep them as pristine blurs in my memory, you might feel differently.

Sing 2 (June 22)

If I know anything about kids’ movies today, it’s that they all seem to be built around covers of popular songs. This trend continues in Sing 2sequel to 2016 To singan animated jukebox musical about a group of singing animals – voiced by incredibly famous people like Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Pharrell – who must convince a rock star (voiced by Bono) to join their extravaganza musical. The Umbrella Academy (June 22)

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy left on a major cliffhanger when the gang traveled back in time from the 60s to an alternate version of 2019 in which Hargreeves (Colm Feore) had formed seven different superpowered babies to become Sparrow Academy. In Season 3, the series picks up where it left off, and the Umbrellas will have to deal with the apocalyptic event potentially caused by their timeline jump. [Trailer]

Grey’s Anatomy (June 25)

Grey’s Anatomy will probably outlive us all, which I’m looking forward to. Season 18 hits Netflix in June, dealing with the aftermath of Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) surviving COVID, the return of some beloved characters, and all the usual wins, connections, and heartbreak around Gray Sloan Memorial.
