Welcome to the weekend! If you are reading this, you have probably had a long week and are ready to sit down and find something to distract yourself from everything you have had to do in the past 5 days. And there’s no better way to do it than to catch up on new Netflix movies and shows!
Below we’ll also give you this week’s top releases so you know what you should be watching this weekend.
As always, we wanted to try to provide you with a variety of options. This week we bring you the final season of a beloved series. We also bring you a special comedy from a legend you love or hate.
However, this is the scary season, so we’ve got to bring you a scary movie or two to fill your horror needs. We’ll get into the list in a bit more detail later, but first, let’s recap the big releases from the past week.
Last week saw the release of the limited series Housemaid, which is currently in the top 5 most popular releases on Netflix. The series is an emotional affair that will take you for a spin so be prepared to bond if you hit play.
The other major release the week before was Jake Gyllenhaal’s movie, the guilty. A thriller that follows Gyllenhaal as a 9-1-1 operator who receives a call and tries to save a woman who has been kidnapped. This thriller is also in the top 5 Netflix movies and shows as of this writing.

Best show this week
Of course, the best show released this week has to be On my block. It’s another show that will end this year and it feels like the end of an era. When On my block arrived it was a success immediately.
The show managed to be both fun and heartbreaking with characters that people connected with. Reviews from critics and the general public over the first three seasons are phenomenal and the final season was highly anticipated.
The first reviews of the final season of On my block don’t look good, but it’s still early days and there are a lot of expectations that the show faces, so that’s probably a factor. If you’ve been around so far, you have to see it all the way.
Best film this week
I’m aware that Dave Chapelle’s new comedy special, âThe Closerâ isn’t a movie or a show, but I had to mention it here. The new special is 72 minutes long, so I’m giving it the movie designation this week. Dave is one of my favorite comedians because he understands who he is and how to manipulate audiences.
Dave knows exactly how people are going to react to anything he says and he pushes the boundaries because, quite simply, he can afford it. It’s always fun to see how Dave is going to work in a room and what he is going to say to get people talking. That they don’t like what he has to say or that they do.
